Inspiration

My family is known for three things: perfectly coiffed facial hair, nice cars and charm...this photo illustrates all points. Below is my inspriation: my dad circa 1978. Much like a girl trying to get fit for bathing suit season, this photo will hang upon my fridge as a daily motivation.

Movember Day 1 on the UES...

After an evening of Halloween tricks and treats, Sunday marked the beginning of Movember!

This photo was taken later in the day...that isn't a shadow you are seeing above the lip line, it is actually the first roots of what will soon be a full 'stache.

Day 1 brought with it a Yankee win, a Dolphins win and a Rangers win...it looks like the mo is already bringing good luck! Stay tuned for World Series win Mo photos...

All the Background You Care to Know

It’s probably worth explaining what this whole Movember thing is about. If you’re visually oriented (and have speakers), I suggested watching the YouTube clip which will explain everything Movember.

Here's the clip:

For those who don't have speakers, or rather read, here's everything you wanted to know about Movember and what we're out trying to raise $$ for.

What is Movember?
Movember is an annual, month-long celebration of the moustache, highlighting men’s health issues - specifically prostate and testicular cancer.

How’d Movember begin?
The idea for Movember was sparked in 2003 over a few beers in Melbourne, Australia. The guys behind it joked about 80s fashion and decided it was time to bring the moustache back. In order to justify their Mos (Australian slang for moustache), they used their new looks to raise money for prostate cancer research… never dreaming that facial hair would ultimately lead to a global movement that would get men talking about a taboo subject – their health.

Who gets involved?
A Mo Bro starts Movember – the month formerly known as November – clean shaven, and grows a moustache all month long, garnering support from friends and family in the form of donations. What’s more, a Mo Bro is a walking billboard for the cause as his new look opens the door for him to talk about cancers affecting men – making the moustache a symbol, much like the pink ribbon is for breast cancer. While growing a Mo is left to the guys, Mo Sistas (women who support their guys) form an important part of Movember by recruiting Mo Bros, helping to raise funds and attending the highly anticipated Gala Partés.

Where does the $$ raised go?
This Movember, the money raised in the U.S. will be split between the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund research to find better treatments and a cure for prostate cancer.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation will use the money raised by Movember to fund:
- the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance program which has the goal of improving survival rates and quality of life for young adults with cancer between the ages of 15 and 40.
- research initiatives to further understand the biology of adolescent and young adult cancers.

How much has Movember raised thus far?
To date, Movember has raised $47 million globally making it the world’s largest charity event for men. Significantly, awareness of men’s health issues has improved with Movember helping to spread important health messages directly to millions of Mo Bros & Sistas around the world.

Have we convinced you to donate yet? If so, here's a link to our donation page. I should mention, your donation is 100% tax deductible -- rock on!

Starting Fresh – November 1

One of the very few rules to participate in Movember is that you start November 1st with a clean shaven face, growing your ‘stache for one month’s time only. So, without further ado, here’s November 1 proof:

Brian’s face, clean as a whistle.

Joining our friends

Ok, so now that we have decided to participate, it was time to sign up and get this ball rolling.

Our good friend (and former roommate) Caitlin as well has her significant other (a very cool guy if I do say so myself...) John-Claude are participating in Movember, so we've decided to join their Movember "team" and do this together.

Here's a photo of them pre-Movember (Aren't they good looking?):

And an artist* rendering of Caitlin and JC post-Movember:

(*I'm GREAT with Microsoft Paint)

I should probably mention, it's only the guys growing moustaches here. I just thought, that for support, the MoSistas (as females who participate in Movember are called) should also rock a faux-stache when able.

Anyway, back to the post....

We're still working on getting the pages all pretty. Once everything is up, running and looking good, we'll post all the details here.

Stay tuned.

Let's do it!
